If you’ve been dreaming of seeing cherry blossoms but can’t travel abroad, you’re in luck!
The Palawan cherry trees, locally known as balayong, are now in full bloom at Track 30th in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig, offering a picturesque sight reminiscent of Japan’s famous sakura season.
The Palawan cherry (Cassia javanica) produces delicate pink-and-white blossoms from February to April, transforming parts of BGC into a floral wonderland.
While these trees may look like cherry blossoms, they are actually more closely related to acacia and narra trees rather than the traditional sakura species.
Visitors strolling through Track 30th can enjoy the stunning display of blooms, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts.
More balayong trees can also be found in various areas of BGC, so those who want to experience this rare sight can explore the district on a photo walk.
The balayong tree is native to Palawan, where it is widely celebrated and even honored through an annual Balayong Festival. Over the years, urban areas like BGC have planted these trees to bring more greenery and natural beauty to the cityscape.
Don’t miss your chance to see these breathtaking blooms before the season ends!
