The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced the automatic suspension of classes for all levels from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in public and private schools in the National Capital Region (NCR) on Monday, November 18, 2024, due to Typhoon Pepito. This suspension also applies to Alternative Learning System (ALS) programs.

Automatic Class Suspension

The decision aligns with DepEd Order No. 37, s. 2022, which mandates the automatic suspension of classes in areas under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 or higher.

According to PAGASA’s 8 p.m. weather bulletin today, NCR remains under TCWS No. 2 as Typhoon Pepito continues to bring strong winds and heavy rainfall.

Schools are encouraged to adopt alternative learning delivery modes to ensure continuity of education amid the suspension of physical classes.

Despite the suspension, PAGASA forecasts improving weather conditions tomorrow, November 18. Metro Manila can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms as Typhoon Pepito moves away from the region. The typhoon is expected to exit Luzon's landmass tonight or early morning on Monday, with significant weakening due to land interaction.

Residents are still advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, particularly in flood- and landslide-prone areas.

Stay tuned for updates on weather conditions and school announcements.
