Former Taguig-Pateros Congressman Arnel Cerafica officially filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for the mayoralty race in Taguig City for the upcoming May 12, 2025, national and local elections. This marks Cerafica's third consecutive bid for the mayoral position, following his previous runs in 2019 and 2022.

Cerafica’s running mate is his wife, Janelle Cerafica, who also filed her COC on October 1 at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Taguig office, located in the Taguig Convention Center in Barangay Ususan. This is Janelle’s second time running for vice mayor of Taguig.

Arnel Cerafica served as the representative of the Taguig-Pateros district for three consecutive terms from 2010 to 2019. His latest candidacy comes as Taguig sees significant changes in its political landscape due to the transfer of 10 EMBO (Enlisted Men's Barrio) barangays from Makati to Taguig.

The barangays—Cembo, Comembo, East Rembo, Pembo, Pitogo, Post Proper Northside, Post Proper Southside, Rizal, South Cembo, and West Rembo—have increased Taguig's total population to 1.3 million, with about 208,716 additional registered voters from the EMBO areas.

As a result, voters will now elect 12 councilors from each of Taguig’s two districts, an increase from the current eight, following a Comelec resolution approving the change.

The filing of COCs for all candidates will continue from October 1 to 8, as announced by the Comelec.
