History

In the entire town of Taguig, there is a single largest Barrio since the Spanish era until the republic entered and it is the Barrio Tipas. In 1975, the village was divided into four barangays and one of them is barangay Ligid-Tipas.

During the Spanish era, the only livelihood of the people of Ligid-Tipas was sailing and farming. Through this occupation, they worked hard to educate their children.

Through patient efforts, in barangay Ligid Tipas, the first Municipal Captain of the Taguig Town Government came in the person of Mr. Agustin Rayos del Sol. This is also where Dr. Juanito Natividad who became the Director of the largest Hospital in the entire country and also Gen. Arsenio Natividad General of the Constabulary, who due to his loyalty to duty became the Mayor of the City of Tagaytay when he lived there.

During the Japanese era, many brave men also died defending the country. Only a monument left as a memory can be seen in Plaza Bonifacio in front of the Catholic Church.

When the Philippines became a republic, another person from Ligid-Tipas became the Mayor of Taguig in the person of Mr. Monico C. Tanyag who held office for a long time in our town. Following him was Mr. Levi B. Mariano. And we are also honored to mention that even the former Town Chief, Engineer Rodolfo P. de Guzman, also came from the clan and race of the Ligid-Tipas people.

The first parish priest appointed was Rev. Fr. Ruben "Ben" J. Villote. The word "Tipas" comes from the word "Tinagpas" or "Tiga-gapas" because the original taga-Tipas were farmers.

It was also a site of a gruesome event on December 1, 1944. On that day, 300 men were rounded up by Japanese forces in the plaza and were taken to the prisons of Fort Santiago, many of them never to be seen alive by their loved ones again. A memorial marker was placed in the plaza as a memorial. (citation)
